Review: XTouch XBot Senior

Rugged and stylish do not usually go together. If a device is rugged, it looks like a rock, hardly an eye-candy. And if something is stylish, it is delicate to the core. XTouch, however, has come up with something that takes rugged features and infuses it seamlessly with a stylish smartphone. We are talking about the new XBot Senior – one of the smartphones from the company’s XBot series, which was launched a couple of weeks ago.

The XBot Senior is being billed as one of the few smartphones on the market that have been certified with the IP69 dust-proof, water-proof and impact-proof capabilities. On the front of the device, you get a 5.8-inch HD+ display. Corning’s Gorilla Glass protects the display, which offers a resolution of 1440-by-720 pixels.

On the right edge, SIM tray, which is covered by a rubberized flap, with the power button just below it. On the left edge, you get the volume rockers and a dedicated camera shortcut button.

On the bottom edge, you get the USB-C charging port, along with a microphone. Turn the phone around, and you will find a 13MP camera at the back along with the LED flash module and the fingerprint scanner right below the camera module. On the front, you also get an 8MP camera for all your selfies.

Under the hood, the XBot Senior runs on a 1.5GHz MediaTek MTK6739V processor. You also get 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage space, which can be further expanded to up to 128GB using a microSD card. The battery is rated at 5000mAh and on a single charge, you get around a day’s worth of battery life. The XBot Senior runs on Android 8.1 Oreo OS.

In terms of build quality, the XTouch XBot Senior is top notch. The design is something that needs some refining, but there is only so much you can do with a rugged device. The performance of the device is good, too. It has enough processing power to get you through most of your day’s tasks and play some games, too.

For a rugged device, the XBot Senior is quite thin and does not look or feel bulky. The rear camera takes some good shots, especially under good lighting conditions. Under low light, the performance suffers a bit. The front camera also takes some good selfies. The phone also comes with a two-year warranty that adds value to the overall package.

At a price of AED 1234, the XTouch XBot Senior might not be for everyone. However, if you find yourself dropping your smartphone quite often, work in the heavy industry segment such as construction, ports, oil and gas, logistics and so on, you will find the XTouch XBot Senior to be the perfect device to carry around without having to worry about bumps and cracks.
