Transcend Information has announced the availability of the ESD220C Portable SSD, which combines portability and reliability into an ultra-slim external SSD with fast data transfer rates and solid data integrity. Because solid-state drives lack spinning platters, they can be made lighter and more compact than hard drives. At 9.6 mm thin and weighing a mere 35g, the credit card-sized ESD220C features a reflective black enclosure with anti-scratch coating for a stylish, yet durable finish. The compact, lightweight form factor also enables the ESD220C to fit comfortably in your wallet or purse.
Speed is the reason you’re spending a lot more for a portable SSD over a portable or external desktop hard drive. Unlike traditional external hard drives, the ESD220C takes full advantage of next-generation SuperSpeed USB 3.1 Gen 1 interface and built-in SLC caching technology to deliver exceptional transfer speeds of up to 410MB/s read and 400MB/s write.
The inclusion of UASP (USB Attached SCSI Protocol) support also meant that the ESD220C is capable of accelerated read and write speeds when used with a UASP-enabled host computer, compared to conventional USB 3.0 interface. To ensure maximum interoperability with various USB ports, the ESD220C is specifically designed with a USB Type-C port to offer the high-speed data transfer between Windows, Mac and Android On-The-Go (OTG) devices. While a USB Type-C to Type-A cable is included, users will need to provide their own adapter or compatible cable to attach the ESD220C to mobile or USB Type-C devices.
While fast sequential speeds are important for transferring and backing up large blocks of data to your drive, quick random speeds are essential if you must run programs or games directly off of the portable SSD. The ESD220C works great as an external drive for PlayStation 4 or Xbox One not only to expand storage capacity, but also to benefit from improved load times that are up to three times faster than external HDDs.
A portable SSD must keep your data safe. For added peace of mind, the ESD220C is engineered with a RAID engine, LDPC (Low-Density Parity Check) coding, a powerful ECC algorithm, along with 256-bit AES encryption for heightened data security. In addition a convenient auto-backup button, users can also lock and unlock the ESD220C via the exclusive Transcend Elite data management software (Windows only), which comes as a free download to secure sensitive data stored on the SSD.
The ESD220C Portable SSD is available in 120GB, 240GB and 480GB capacities, and backed by Transcend’s Three-year Limited Warranty.
