Swisslog to Show Off Automation Solutions at Materials Handling 2019

Swisslog has today announced its participation in Materials Handling Middle East (MHME), the region’s dedicated trade show for warehousing, intralogistics and supply chain solutions from September 3 – 5, 2019. At MHME, Swisslog will introduce highly efficient robotised storage and order processing solutions for small parts and pallets that integrate into existing buildings.

Speaking on the occasion, Alain Kaddoum, General Manager, Swisslog Middle East said “Several businesses in the UAE and globally have benefitted immensely from logistics automation and, particularly in the Middle East, we are seeing increasing demand for automated logistics solutions in industries ranging from e-commerce and retail to F&B and pharma. While automated picking and packing have been around for a while, the next wave of change is being brought about by robotics. A warehouse that deploys robots reduces costs significantly while boosting efficiency.”

Solutions being introduced include CarryPick, a flexible and modular AGV-based storage and order picking system designed for multi-channel intralogistics that can fulfill up to 20 orders simultaneously. The system adapts to changing customer demands, so businesses have the option of starting small and then expanding flexibly in line with growing volumes by adding more vehicles.

Swisslog will also give some insights for AutoStore, a highly efficient robotized storage and order processing solution for small parts that integrates easily into existing buildings. AutoStore uses robots and bins to quickly process small parts orders and provides better use of available space than any other automated system available today. Each robot is extremely energy efficient, using just 0.1 kW of energy per hour – six robots use the same energy as a toaster.

Visitors of the expo will also be able to learn more about the diverse flexible and cost-effective pallet technology solutions for businesses. Some of the brand‘s solutions include the high bay warehouse based on Vectura pallet stacker cranes as well as the dynamic PowerStore pallet shuttle system. Depending on the storage density and throughput requirements of a warehouse, it can handle one, two or more loads in single, double, triple and multi-deep layouts.

In high buildings and where land space is limited, Vectura cranes operate at heights up to 50 meters. Vectura is also capable of handling large and unusual loads from car bodies to boats. Vectura brings together the best engineering and pallet stacking knowhow in the industry. On top of robotics, Kaddoum forecasts that digital transformation will majorly disrupt industry streams such as inventory management, cargo loading, order picking, and real-time monitoring of stocks.

“Technology is and will continue to be a truly disruptive force in how the modern supply chain is shaped, defined, and explored. From basic improvements like streamlining operations and increasing process efficiency to fully automating delivery trucks, technology is enabling much smarter and simpler supply chain management,” Kaddoum added. “In the future, companies will leverage new and innovative technologies to create a self-orchestrated supply chain and previously unimaginable efficiencies.”

Automation is now a key driver for the full spectrum of industries, including ecommerce. The UAE’s e-commerce sector alone is currently worth US$17.8 billion, representing 45.6% of the total value of the Middle East’s e-commerce market, according to a recent Fitch Solutions report.
