Outlook 2021: Making Digital Identification Simple and Secure for Everyone

Sarah Whipp, the CMO and Head of Go To Market Strategy at Callsign, speaks about 2021 opportunities

How was 2020 for the industry and your company?
2020 was the year that saw the world become digital-first. Working, shopping, banking, and interacting with friends and family were all done online where possible and physically only where necessary. The challenge was that digital-first has long been the bad actors and fraudsters’ playground, we entered their turf so to speak.

For us at Callsign, our mission is to make digital identification simple and secure for everyone. We got a whole lot busier making sure we were protecting both our customers and our customers’ customers. Luckily we had been preparing for this since our inception in 2012 and our platform allowed people to get on with their digital lives safely.

What sort of opportunities did 2020 bring along?
2020 brought the opportunity to demonstrate to our customers that they had made the right choice in partnering with Callsign and to reach out to new customers in new regions to demonstrate how we could help them. As a result, we made a strategic commitment to the Middle East by opening an office in Abu Dhabi that goes beyond supporting customers, it also taps into the immense talent across the middle east for technical expertise and innovation by becoming a world-class technology hub for Callsign.

What promises does 2021 bring along?
As we start to balance our lives with more physical interactions as well as maintaining the convenience of using digital services we will see bad actors and fraudsters go omnichannel; they will look for security gaps in customer journeys and seek to exploit them. Gaps often occur when changes are made, and so companies and government agencies need to choose security solutions that work across all their channels, and provide a single point of orchestration for positive identification and authentication to ensure there is a little friction as possible for genuine users, but maintaining the highest level of protection against fraud and theft– Callsign does precisely this.

According to you, which technologies will be in demand in 2021?
Technologies that are as sophisticated as humans in identifying people seamlessly, accurately, and quickly will be in demand. They are the lynchpin to successful digital transformation for companies across all sectors. The pandemic taught us that people weren’t willing to wait to access services online, the post-pandemic world will not want to wait in line, and Callsign is already seeing increased fraud via ChatBots and social engineering in particular.

Do you plan to enter new markets or add new products/applications to your portfolio in 2021?
As the UAE prepares for its Golden Jubilee in the upcoming year, its flourishing economy provides new pathways for growth, and we are poised to benefit from it. By opening an office in Abu Dhabi, we aim to tap into this promising market. The Abu Dhabi office helps us set foot into the region and we look forward to further expand in the Middle East.
