Review: HP EliteBook X360 1040 G7

HP recently refreshed its range of EliteBook series of thin and light laptops. The new series of laptops come packed with new features that will help users in “work from home” scenarios. These include high-resolution webcams, noise-cancelling microphones, and super quick Wi-Fi 6 connectivity.

While the laptop series offers both Intel and AMD variations when it comes to the processor, the review unit we received came with the Intel Core i7-10710U Processor, running at a clock speed of 1.1 GHz with Intel UHD Graphics. The EliteBook X360 1040 G7 is a 14-inch premium convertible laptop.

Other specs on the laptop include Tile integration for device tracking, 4G LTE with 5G expected at a later time, up to 2TB of storage, Wacom AES 2.0 Pen for quick note-taking, an NFC module, and a range of displays that offer matte full HD to Sure View Reflect with 1000 nits of brightness up to 4K UHD with touch.

In terms of design, the EliteBook X360 1040 G7 comes in an aluminum shell that is only 0.6 inches thick and weighs around 1.2-kgs, which is comfortable to be carried around, especially for road warriors. You also get to choose from 8GB LPDDR4-2933 RAM to up to 32GB of LPDDR4-2933 for its memory specs.

HP also throws in SSD storage ranging from 128GB to a whopping 2TB, depending on your preference. In terms of connectivity, you get a bunch of ports which include two USB Type-C ports that support Thunderbolt and DisplayPort 1.2 connectivity, two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, one HDMI 1.4b, one headphone/microphone combo jack, and one power input port. You also get a Nano SIM card slot for mobile data connectivity.

As it is with most premium laptops from HP, the EliteBook X360 1040 G7’s audio is also powered by Bang & Olufsen, wherein you get four premium stereo speakers. On the top of the display, you will also find a Hybrid 720p HD/IR camera with an integrated privacy shutter. The bezels on this thing are also quite thinner than their predecessors. You get around 89 percent of screen-to-body-ratio on the G7.

Overall performance is pretty good. The laptop was able to handle most jobs we threw at it with aplomb. Carrying the laptop around is effortless since it only weighs around 1.2-kgs. Since it is also a convertible laptop, you can choose the mode you would like to work on it based on your preference.

For a starting price of AED 7000, the HP EliteBook X360 1040 G7 might feel a bit expensive. However, it makes up for it with its top-notch build quality and design, excellent specs, good overall performance and featherlight weight for better portability. If you are looking for a laptop that packs in some of the best features that will help you with transforming your “work from home” experience for the better, the HP EliteBook X360 1040 G7 could be one of the options you could look at.
