Review: ASUS ProArt Display PA147CDV

Asus’ new portable monitor, the ProArt PA147CDV, is a 14-inch display that comes with a very unique aspect ratio of 32:9. The ProArt PA147CDV is aimed at content creators, as it features Wacom EMR and Microsoft Pen Protocol 2.0 support for digital inking. This is a great option for sketching, drawing, or writing while on the go.

In addition, the monitor comes with the Asus Dial, which allows creators to access tools and adjustments in software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere Pro, and Lightroom Classic. ASUS has also created the ASUS ProArt Creator Hub to provide productivity features for those Adobe apps.

The software, however, is only available for Windows OS. The ProArt PA147CDV is designed to meet the needs of content creators with features such as colour accuracy.

The monitor is Calman Verified for colour accuracy and is factory pre-calibrated. It also supports 10-bit colour, covers 100% of the sRGB and Rec. 709 colour spaces, and has a built-in kickstand for use in portrait or landscape orientation.

The display features an IPS LCD panel which has a matte finish. It offers a brightness of 400 nits, a contrast ratio of 1200:1, a refresh rate of 60 Hz, a response time of 5ms (GtG), and a 10-point touch.

The overall build quality is quite solid and it weighs 950 grams. The display offers a couple of ports next to the power switch, which includes a full-sized HDMI port, and two interchangeable USB-C ports for power and video.

The OSD menu button and a dial meanwhile, are located on the left edge of the device. The dial can be used to adjust OSD settings or the ASUS Dial controls. In order to access the Adobe control panels, you will first need to install the ASUS ProArt Creator Hub from the Microsoft App Store, and the ASUS Control Panel Toolkit from the ASUS website.

The ASUS ProArt Creator Hub allows you to customise the ASUS Dial and Adobe control panels. The user interface of the Adobe control panels includes dials, sliders, scroll wheels, and buttons, which can be customised to a certain extent. ASUS Dial is another productivity software, which for now, works only with five Adobe apps.

When you press the physical dial, the digital dial will appear on the screen and you can use the physical dial to navigate through your shortcut options. You can create eight different shortcuts, which can include groups of shortcuts such as various brush controls.

Unlike the Control Panel, you can create shortcuts for non-Adobe apps and keyboard shortcuts. The display can also be used for writing and drawing. The supported pen is ASUS Pen 2 (SA203H) which is not included in the box. The pen supports MPP 2, 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity, tilt, and palm rejection.

The ASUS ProArt Display PA147CDV is priced at $599. The PA147CDV is a great-looking display, which offers solid build quality. It also offers 100% sRGB colour support, 400 nits of brightness, Adobe control panels, and the physical ASUS Dial, which is designed to improve productivity.
