Review: BenQ Zowie XL2740
BenQ has always been one of the top brands when it came to gaming displays. The company recently announced the launch of the new Zowie by BenQ XL2740 eSports monitor, which offers a Full HD (1080p) resolution. This one of 27-inch 240Hz Refresh Rate Monitor featuring Black Equalizer, Color Vibrance, AMA and Instant Mode.
Inside the box, the monitor comes with a base and the stand. You also get privacy shields, a DisplayPort cable, a USB 3.0 passthrough cable, and some paperwork. Setting up the monitor was a walk in the park. The monitor offers a 400:1 contrast ratio and comes packed with the Dynamic Accuracy (DyAC) technology.
The DyAC technology tries to maintain the consistency and sharpness of the images during the most intense gaming actions. If you are wondering whether you really need to buy a 240Hz monitor for gaming or is 144Hz sufficient, you have a point there.
It is not a secret that in professional gaming every millisecond counts. While you may see a noticeable difference between say, a 60Hz monitor and a 240Hz monitor, you might possibly not see a difference between a 144Hz and a 240Hz monitor. Having said that, if you are a professional gamer, your trained eye might see the difference and hence a 240Hz monitor would turn out to be a wise investment.
As mentioned before, the BenQ Zowie XL2740 1080p monitor also comes with removable shields which eliminate all distractions and allow you to focus on the game. In addition, the XL2740 also comes with the S-Switch device that lets allows you to switch between saved games, different profiles and even access the monitor menu externally.
In order to test out the potential of the XL2740, I ended up playing PUBG for 4 hours straight. I was impressed by how beautifully the monitor was able to reproduce the visuals. There was definitely a huge improvement on the surroundings such as the fine details in the grasslands, the interiors of the stone houses and so on.
The gameplay was smooth, without any ghosting whatsoever. Since the BenQ Zowie XL2740 screen is also flicker-free and accompanies a low blue light filter, enjoying longer gaming sessions is now possible without having to worry about eye strain or headaches.
The monitor is currently available on the market for AED 2299. Some might find the price tag tad expensive. But then, if you want quality gaming sessions, excellent visual effects and a bunch of health-related features thrown in, you can’t go wrong with the BenQ Zowie XL2470 gaming monitor.
