BeamSec to Address the Human Risk in Email-Based Cyber Threats
Murat Guvenc, the Director of Global Business Development and Channels at BeamSec, says AI is a key player in cybersecurity, aimed at proactive threat detection
Tell us about the cybersecurity trends for 2024.
In 2024, AI will be a key player in cybersecurity, aimed at proactive threat detection. The rise of Cybercrime-as-a-Service has led to more accessible and sophisticated ransomware attacks. Supply chain and third-party vulnerabilities require comprehensive security strategies. Lastly, the regulatory environment is becoming increasingly complex, with significant new cybersecurity legislation like the Cyber Trust Mark and the Cyber Resilience Act impacting various sectors. These regulations are driving organizations to conduct thorough audits and develop continuous monitoring systems to ensure compliance and enhance their security postures.
What is the theme of your participation at GISEC 2024?
The theme of our participation at GISEC 2024 revolves around addressing the human risk in email-based cyber threats, emphasizing the critical role that human behaviour plays in cybersecurity. Our participation will focus on presenting sophisticated, user-centric solutions designed to mitigate the risks posed by phishing, spear-phishing, and other types of social engineering attacks that exploit human vulnerabilities.
In addition to showcasing our technological advancements, we seek to establish and deepen partnerships. We understand the power of collaboration in the fight against cybercrime and are actively pursuing partner opportunities that can lead to shared knowledge, integrated solutions, and a stronger, united front against emerging cyber threats.
Our aim at GISEC 2024 is not only to highlight the importance of technology in cybersecurity but also to underscore the need for fostering a culture of cybersecurity awareness within organizations. We believe that by working together with partners who share our vision, we can make a significant impact on improving email security protocols and reducing the incidence of human-error-related breaches.

Is there a skills gap in the cybersecurity industry? What needs to be done to bridge that gap?
Yes, there is a widely acknowledged skills gap in the cybersecurity industry, driven by the rapid evolution of technology and the growing sophistication of cyber threats. Bridging this gap requires a multi-faceted approach: firstly, educational institutions should update their curricula to include current and practical cybersecurity practices; secondly, companies need to invest in continuous professional development and training for their staff; thirdly, the industry should foster an inclusive environment that attracts diverse talent; and finally, public-private partnerships can play a crucial role in developing and offering cybersecurity certifications that align with industry needs. These steps can help ensure that the workforce is equipped with the necessary skills to protect against and respond to cybersecurity challenges.
