HID has announced new FIDO-certified credentials and an Enterprise Passkey Management (EPM) solution designed to help organizations deploy and manage passkeys on a large scale. The new offerings aim to streamline the transition to passwordless authentication.
FIDO Alliance research indicates that while 87% of enterprises are adopting passkeys, almost half of those who haven’t yet deployed them cite complexity and cost as the main obstacles. Sean Dyon, Vice President & Head of the Authentication Business Unit at HID, noted that the new portfolio offers both the necessary hardware and management capabilities for large-scale passkey deployment. He stated that rolling out passkeys isn’t just about issuing devices but also about giving security teams the tools to manage them with the same precision as other identity stacks.
HID’s new subscription-based Enterprise Passkey Management (EPM) solution provides IT and IAM leaders with full administrative oversight. EPM allows for the remote initiation and management of provisioning, which helps reduce manual effort and accelerate deployment. It also offers full lifecycle visibility for managing issuance, revocation, and audit trails to support compliance and operational efficiency.
The expanded Crescendo line now includes three new authenticators:
- Crescendo Keys: Redesigned for improved ergonomics and usability, these keys support FIDO2, PKI, and OATH with remote PIN reset, making them suitable for power users and regulated environments.
- Crescendo Cards: These are universal credentials that function as a corporate badge, providing both physical access to facilities and passwordless access to digital resources. They are available as dual-interface or contactless cards and support FIDO, PKI, OATH, and various physical access technologies.
- OMNIKEY 5022 Contactless Reader: A cost-effective FIDO reader for authenticating to PCs and workstations.
All new devices are compatible with Microsoft Entra ID and other major identity providers, allowing for seamless integration into existing enterprise infrastructures. An early tester, David Backus, Sales Engineer at TX Systems Identity Solutions, praised the new Crescendo Key’s design, intuitive setup process, and quality.
HID also introduced a “one-card” solution that combines FIDO-based, passwordless access to business applications with physical access to spaces, aiming to increase workforce productivity. The new offerings include:
- Seos FIDO-Enabled Card: Combines Seos physical access technology with phishing-resistant FIDO 2.1 authentication in a single credential.
- MIFARE DESFire EV3 FIDO-Enabled Card: Integrates DESFire EV3 smart card technology with FIDO 2.1 support for unified access.
