Huawei Highlights Wearable Health Innovations at Dubai Technology Forum

Huawei brought together healthcare researchers, medical experts and technology specialists in Dubai for its MEA Tech Innovation Talks, highlighting developments in wearable health technology, cardiovascular monitoring and personalised healthcare.

Held at Grand Plaza Mövenpick on the sidelines of the ISH-ECS 2026 annual conference, the event followed the unveiling of the HUAWEI WATCH D3, a smartwatch featuring medical-grade blood pressure monitoring capabilities. Discussions focused on the role of wearable devices in supporting blood pressure management, coronary heart disease risk research and early diabetes risk identification.

ISH-ECS 2026, taking place in Dubai from 22 to 25 October, brings together international experts and organisations to discuss advances in hypertension prevention and management. Huawei, a member of the International Society of Hypertension (ISH), showcased the WATCH D3, while researchers shared findings from studies involving the company’s HUAWEI WATCH D Series blood pressure monitoring wearables.

Advancing wearable blood pressure monitoring
Huawei’s research and development investments underpin its efforts to advance health monitoring technologies. The company invested USD 28.62 billion in R&D in 2025, representing 21.8% of its annual revenue. It has also established the Wearable Blood Pressure Technology Innovation Fund in collaboration with ISH to support further research into hypertension.

Professor Jiguang Wang, Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at the Shanghai Institute of Hypertension, highlighted the potential of wearable devices to make blood pressure monitoring less disruptive and more integrated into everyday routines.

“Innovations like Minimally Disruptive ABPM and environmental monitoring reminder by Huawei Watch D3 may be inspiring for shaping a new direction on how future blood pressure management is automated and seamlessly embedded into daily life, via wearable devices,” he said.

Professor George Stergiou, President of the International Society of Hypertension, described the HUAWEI WATCH D3 as a novel, reliable wearable device that provides insights into blood pressure profiles and patterns. He noted that the European Society of Hypertension (ESH) and ISH encourage the clinical use of validated wrist-cuff blood pressure monitors, while emphasising the need for further research into their implementation in clinical practice.

Professor Datin Yook-Chin Chia, Professor and Senior Consultant at Sunway University, Malaysia, also discussed how reducing disruption and the number of required measurements could make comprehensive ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) more practical for patients.

Exploring early diabetes risk assessment
The conference also examined how wearable technology and real-world health data could contribute to preventive and personalised healthcare.

Professor Maryam Al Saeed of Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences said, “Dubai Health and Huawei are collaborating on a clinical research initiative to evaluate non-invasive wearable technology for earlier diabetes risk, leveraging real-world health data to advance personalised prevention, enable proactive healthcare, and improve long-term health outcomes across diverse populations.”

Attendees were also able to experience the HUAWEI WATCH D3’s blood pressure monitoring capabilities in different scenarios, demonstrating how wearable devices could make health tracking more accessible in daily life.

Beyond health technology
The event also featured Huawei’s latest smartphone developments, including innovations in foldable devices and smartphone camera technology.

Edwin You, Chief Technology Officer at Huawei, discussed the company’s Tau Law technology, which takes a different approach to semiconductor design by focusing on reducing signal propagation delays rather than relying solely on shrinking transistor dimensions.

Through technologies such as LogicFolding, Tau Law aims to improve transistor density and system performance, highlighting Huawei’s broader research efforts across consumer devices, health technology and semiconductor engineering.
