Omantel Launches Interactive Digital Safety Initiative for Children

Omantel has launched “Digital Detective”, an interactive initiative designed to help children and families recognise online threats and develop safer digital habits.

As part of its participation in the Khareef Dhofar 2026 season, Omantel has introduced the initiative to turn digital safety education into an engaging, hands-on experience for children.

The programme places children in the role of a “Digital Detective”, challenging them to work through scenarios based on common online risks, including phishing messages, fake accounts, excessive sharing of personal information and interactions with strangers online.

Participants are required to analyse clues, identify suspicious activity and make decisions about how to respond to different situations. The aim is to make concepts around online safety more accessible by connecting them with situations children may encounter in their everyday digital lives.

The initiative primarily targets children between the ages of six and 15, with content tailored to their interests. Parents can also participate in selected stages, encouraging families to discuss responsible digital behaviour and online risks together.

The approximately 20- to 25-minute experience takes participants through registration, a digital safety scenario and an evaluation before concluding with a graduation experience. Children who complete the programme receive a certificate and personalised badge recognising them as an “Omantel Digital Detective”.

Qais Al Aamri, Manager of CSR at Omantel, said the initiative is intended to help build greater awareness of digital risks among younger users while encouraging responsible use of technology.

Omantel said the initiative reflects its broader community role and its focus on helping children and families navigate an increasingly digital environment safely and responsibly.
