Vertiv Introduces Pre-Engineered Infrastructure Platform to Simplify High-Density AI Deployments

Vertiv Holdings Co. has introduced Vertiv SmartIT, a pre-engineered infrastructure solution designed to simplify the deployment of high-density artificial intelligence workloads across enterprise data centres, research institutions, colocation facilities and hyperscale environments.

Based on NVIDIA MGX and Open Compute Project (OCP) ORV3 architectures, the platform combines rack infrastructure, DC power conversion and distribution, direct-to-chip liquid cooling, in-rack cooling distribution and monitoring within a factory-validated design. The solution is intended to reduce integration complexity and enable organisations to deploy AI infrastructure in existing facilities and new data centres without requiring extensive redesign.

Previously deployed in collaboration with NVIDIA to support the NVIDIA DGX GB300, the platform brings together critical infrastructure components that are typically integrated separately. Factory-level integration and validation are designed to reduce on-site commissioning requirements, with the completed solution connecting to existing facility power and cooling infrastructure.

“AI is fundamentally changing the demands placed on data center infrastructure, requiring closer coordination across power, cooling and IT systems to support increasingly complex workloads,” said Scott Armul, Chief Product and Technology Officer at Vertiv. “Vertiv™ SmartIT reflects our approach to solving that challenge by bringing these disciplines together in a factory-validated architecture. By combining Vertiv’s expertise across critical infrastructure, we’re helping customers simplify deployment, build greater consistency into their AI environments and establish a foundation that can evolve alongside their computing needs.”

Addressing AI Infrastructure Deployment Challenges
Vertiv SmartIT is designed to address several challenges associated with deploying high-density computing infrastructure. By integrating and validating components before delivery, the solution reduces the extent of on-site integration and limits commissioning primarily to facility connections. It also simplifies coordination across multiple technology vendors by providing a single architecture covering rack infrastructure, power, cooling and monitoring.

The platform is designed to support AI deployments in existing enterprise facilities and commercial buildings, including Class A properties, without requiring complete reconstruction. Its modular approach allows organisations to begin with a single rack and expand to multi-rack configurations using the same infrastructure architecture.

Operational visibility is another area of focus. Integrated monitoring, leak detection and automated response capabilities provide visibility across rack and facility environments, reducing the need to assemble separate monitoring and control systems from multiple vendors.

Supporting Next-Generation AI Architectures
Vertiv SmartIT supports a range of NVIDIA computing platforms, including NVIDIA GB300 NVL72, NVIDIA Vera Rubin NVL72, NVIDIA DGX Rubin NVL8 and NVIDIA HGX Rubin NVL8, across NVIDIA MGX and OCP ORV3 architectures.

The scalable design enables organisations to expand AI infrastructure while maintaining a consistent approach to power distribution, cooling, monitoring and control. Support for Redfish, SNMP and Modbus protocols is intended to simplify integration with existing management environments. Vertiv Global Services will provide support across deployment, commissioning and infrastructure lifecycle management.

The platform can also form part of a wider Vertiv infrastructure architecture. Vertiv SmartRun extends infrastructure integration across the data centre row, while Vertiv rack power distribution units (rPDU) provide power distribution and monitoring capabilities.

Vertiv Unify adds integrated monitoring, analytics and controls across power and thermal infrastructure, including leak detection and coordinated response management. Together, these technologies are designed to provide a scalable approach to managing AI infrastructure, from individual rack deployments to larger computing environments.

Vertiv demonstrated the SmartIT platform alongside an NVIDIA HGX Rubin NVL8 demonstration unit at NVIDIA GTC Berlin in October. The demonstration showcased an integrated infrastructure architecture designed to support NVIDIA DGX Rubin NVL8 deployments, allowing organisations to begin at an appropriate scale and expand capacity as AI computing requirements grow.

The Vertiv SmartIT solution is available globally for AI infrastructure deployments.
