Review: LG Gram (2021)

LG is out with its latest iteration of the Gram laptop. The 2021 edition of the slim and lightweight laptop promises all the latest bells and whistles and the specs to power it up in terms of performance. So, inside the box, you get the LG Gram which still feels light as a feather when picking it up. You also get the USB-C charging adapter, along with the user manual.

DESIGN AND DISPLAY
The LG Gram is a beautiful-looking and thin and light laptop. The variant we received had a matte silver-grey finish on the body. LG has used magnesium alloy to build this laptop, to keep it very lightweight at just 999-gms. This sort of weight is unheard of, especially for a 14-inch laptop. The dimensions of the LG Gram stand at 12.34-by-8.47-by-0.66-inches. What’s more, the laptop also conforms to the MIL-STD-810G military standards.

The LG Gram also comes with a very beautiful screen. LG has gone with a 14-inch IPS LCD panel with a white LED backlight on the Gram laptop. The display offers an aspect ratio of 16:10 with a resolution of 1920-by-1200 pixels. The display is quite crisp and sharp, and colours just pop out.

You also get an average brightness of 300 cd/m², which is pretty good for most lighting conditions. Compared to its predecessor, LG has also considerably improved many important aspects, such as contrast, brightness, and black value. Just on the upper bezel, you also get a 720p web camera, which also performs well in video calls.

HARDWARE AND I/O PORTS
The LG Gram derives its computing power from an 11th Gen Intel Core i7-1165G7 processor, running at a clock speed of 2.80-GHz. You also get 16GB of RAM, 1TB of SSD storage, and Intel Iris Xe Graphics. Wireless connectivity includes Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201 and Bluetooth 5.1. There are also two 2.0W stereo speakers that handle the audio output.

In terms of connectivity options, you get USB 4.0 Gen 3 ports, a micro-SD card reader, and a Kensington lock port on the right edge. On the left edge, you get a standard HDMI port, two USB Type-C ports with Thunderbolt, and a 3.5mm audio combo jack.

LG has gone ahead and used big and flat keypads on the LG Gram, which the company says will aid in the speed of typing. The keyboard also comes with backlighting. The power button also doubles up as a fingerprint scanner to log into Windows using Hello. The keystroke has also been increased from 1.5mm to 1.65mm, compared to prior models, for more comfortable typing. And the wide 16:10 touchpad did feel nice to use and it was very accurate.

PERFORMANCE
Though the LG Gram looks pretty and is thin and light, it does not compromise on the performance. A strong 11th Gen processor and the ample amounts of RAM made sure the Gram was able to handle each and every job we threw at it with aplomb. Productivity tools and day-to-day computing were just a walk in the park with the LG Gram.

While the laptop itself is not aimed at gamers, gaming on the LG Gram also did feel butter smooth. The laptop should be able to handle a game or two of Fortnite between presentations. The LG Gram also offers one of the best batteries on a laptop out there on the market. On a single charge, we were able to clock around 20 hours of battery life, which is very impressive.

With the LG Gram, the company has come up with a well-rounded performer, that offers very food performance, lots of I/O ports, low weight, and very quiet operation. The LG Gram is priced at AED 6199, which is not cheap. However, the premium is for the top-notch specifications, the features it comes with. If you’re looking for a lightweight performer, that won’t be a task to carry around, the LG Gram is a very good laptop to consider.
