GITEX Global 2022: Huawei to Have an Expanded Presence at the Show This Year

Shunli Wang, the Vice President of Huawei Middle East, says the company’s mission remains to bring digital to every person, home, and organisation

Are you participating in GITEX Global 2022? If yes, which products and solutions will you be showcasing at the event?
GITEX is a significant event for us where we announce our newest products and solutions, discuss best practices from our work with customers and partners around the world, and explore paths to shared success. This year, Huawei has committed to being the Diamond sponsor of GITEX Global 2022. We will be introducing our newest end-to-end products, solutions, and advanced ICT technologies focusing on 5.5G, cloud, AI, digital power, cybersecurity, and industrial applications designed to meet the needs of various industry scenarios and sectors such as government, utilities, oil and gas, transportation, finance & address government national digital transformation goals.

Our ultimate target is to build a sound ecosystem for open collaboration and shared success, and we look forward to exploring this further with our customers and partners in GITEX.

What are your expectations from the event this year?
We had a highly successful GITEX in 2021, despite the lingering COVID aftereffects. We had an EBG, CNBG, Cloud BU, Digital Power, and CBG joint exhibition under the theme “Dive into Digital”. Underlined by appearances by royal family members, we had more than 4000+ VIP customers from the Middle East, Africa, Northeast Europe, and Latin America in our booth. Overall, we welcomed over 100,000 visiting customers, more than 4,000 global customers and partners, and more than 260 CXOs and 25 MoUs signed at our booth.

With our expanded presence at the show this year, we expect even more successful results. We look forward to connecting with our customers and partners from governments and enterprises, will demonstrate Huawei’s digital innovations, release innovative products and solutions and highlight successful business cases to our guests.

What will be your theme of participation at GITEX?
Under the theme of “Unleash Digital”, Huawei’s participation in the region’s biggest tech event comes amid increased investment in UAE’s digital economy, cybersecurity, and advanced technologies. This further underlines the company’s efforts to bring technological advances to even more industries and create new value by helping governments and enterprises go digital while operating more intelligently and achieving sustainability.

Do you plan to run any online engagements such as webinars and offline engagements such as tech talks, demos, keynotes, and so on, alongside GITEX?
On the sidelines of GITEX Global this year, we will be hosting Huawei Connect, the company’s annual flagship event for the global ICT industry. We will be exploring where industry digitalization is heading, what opportunities it brings, and how digital technologies such as cloud, AI, and 5G can be practically applied in different industry scenarios to fully unleash their value.

We will also be bringing back again for another year Huawei Innovation Day 2022 for the Middle East and Africa. This year’s event will be held under the theme of “Collaboration to Unleash Innovation for Sustainable Digital Future” in collaboration with the Arab ICT Organization (AICTO), where leading regional and global experts in government, academia, regulators, industry analysts, as well as Huawei’s senior leadership team will share their expertise over keynotes speeches and panel discussions covering topics such as green ICT, digital transformation, and talent development.

How have your regional strategies changed in recent months?
Our mission remains to bring digital to every person, home, and organisation for a fully connected, intelligent world. Theoretical breakthroughs, advancements in software, and reshaping architecture will lay solid foundations for our future survival and development. The key to achieving these three goals is to open up, innovate, and embrace global talent.

Huawei constantly reinvests in R&D, and that has kept us at the forefront of the global ICT sector & our R&D investments over the past decade exceed $110 billion. But the idea of development is not limited to technologies alone. Bridging the digital skills gap is another crucial aspect of Huawei’s investment and innovation strategy.

An effective talent development strategy is key for the region to fully leverage digital transformation. While regional universities have expanded their ICT offerings, the demand for ICT skills is rising exponentially while new technologies are emerging daily. Therefore, enabling solid capacity-building for the youth in ICT is a prerequisite in today’s digital world, as is upgrading and upskilling for experienced hires or anyone considering a mid-career switch.

We will continue to invest in ICT talent development in the region. Through our Seeds for the Future CSR initiative, Huawei ICT Competition, and many other initiatives, we promote collaborations between public and private sector entities, educators, and technology companies to develop talent.
