Acer has unveiled the new Acer Vero 16 (V16-I71 / V16-I71T), a premium laptop designed to bring greater emphasis to repairability and responsible material use without compromising on performance. The fourth-generation Vero consumer laptop combines a chassis incorporating recycled and low-carbon aluminium with a range of design changes intended to make repairs and upgrades easier. It is powered by Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors and positioned as a Copilot+ PC, bringing on-device AI capabilities to productivity, content creation and everyday computing.
The Vero 16 also features a 16-inch 3K OLED display, up to 32GB of LPDDR5x memory, up to 512GB of SSD storage and modern connectivity, including Thunderbolt 4 and Wi-Fi 7. “Sustainability should be built into every stage of a product’s lifecycle—from raw materials all the way to packaging,” said James Lin, General Manager, Notebooks, Acer Inc. “The Acer Vero 16 embodies this philosophy through its thoughtfully sourced materials and repairability-driven design, while delivering the AI-powered performance consumers expect from a modern PC.”
Moving from 3R to 4R
Acer has expanded the Vero design philosophy from the traditional three Rs — reduce, reuse and recycle — to what it describes as a 4R approach, adding repairability to the equation. The Vero 16’s top cover and palm rest use 50% post-industrial recycled (PIR) aluminium and 50% low-carbon aluminium. The bottom cover is made with 60% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic, while the display bezels incorporate 30% PCR plastic.
Repairability has also been given a more prominent role in the physical design. A visual guide is engraved directly on the laptop to assist with repairs and upgrades, while a tool-free access latch on the bottom cover provides easier access to internal components. The battery and SSD are user-replaceable, while the external hinge is detachable from the chassis to simplify repairs. Removable I/O port covers on both sides of the laptop are intended to make port removal and servicing easier.
Acer says the Vero 16 is also designed to support processor upgrades for at least two generations, extending the focus from simply repairing the laptop to keeping it upgradeable for longer. The laptop’s MIL-STD-810H certified chassis uses a solvent-free powder-coated finish. According to Acer, the finish reduces volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions compared with conventional paint while also improving resistance to wear.
The approach extends to the packaging, with the Vero 16 shipping in 100% recyclable packaging made from recycled materials.
Intel Core Ultra performance meets a 3K OLED display
The Vero 16 is powered by up to an Intel Core Ultra X9 processor 388H, delivering up to 180 platform TOPS for AI workloads. Acer combines the processor with a 71Wh battery and an energy-efficient hybrid architecture designed to balance performance and power consumption.
Display configurations include a 16-inch 3K OLED WQXGA+ panel, while memory options go up to 32GB LPDDR5x and storage up to 512GB SSD. For video calls, the laptop includes a 5MP IR camera with a built-in privacy shutter. Connectivity includes an SD card reader, HDMI 2.1 with HDCP, two Thunderbolt 4 ports and two USB Type-A ports. The latter include one USB 3.2 Gen 1 port and one USB 3.2 Gen 2 port with power-off charging.
Intel Wi-Fi 7 provides wireless connectivity, while a backlit keyboard includes Acer MyKey, a customisable shortcut that can launch applications, websites or Windows features. Audio is handled by dual anti-vibration speakers designed to reduce unwanted vibration and noise while improving overall sound output.
AI features built into Windows and Acer’s software
As a Windows 11 Copilot+ PC, the Vero 16 brings a range of on-device AI capabilities to the laptop. Microsoft’s Copilot+ features include Click to Do, Cocreator, Live Captions with translation and Windows Studio Effects, covering tasks such as content creation, accessibility, communication and video conferencing.
Acer also adds its own AI-powered tools. These include instant QR code scanning, AI image generation, video playback speed adjustment and magnification of small text or images. Acer PurifiedView uses AI-based camera enhancements for video conferencing, while Acer PurifiedVoice with AI Noise Reduction is designed to reduce background noise and improve voice clarity when communicating through the laptop or connected microphones and headsets.
AcerSense provides access to performance modes, battery and storage optimisation, system monitoring and AI-powered collaboration tools through a dedicated hotkey. With the Vero 16, Acer is therefore putting as much emphasis on what happens to a laptop during its lifetime as it does on what the machine can do when it is new. Its combination of replaceable components, easier access to internal hardware and support for future processor upgrades gives the Vero line a more explicit focus on keeping hardware in use for longer.
