Axis Communications Intros AXIS OS 13 With Enhanced Cybersecurity and Integration Capabilities

Axis Communications has announced AXIS OS 13, the latest version of its Linux-based operating system for network devices, introducing enhanced cybersecurity measures, improved integration capabilities and updates designed to support long-term device reliability. The operating system powers more than 200 Axis products, spanning network cameras, access control solutions, intercoms and audio systems, with tens of millions of devices deployed across customer environments.
AXIS OS is designed to provide a consistent experience across different product categories while supporting cybersecurity, system integration and long-term device management. Through continuous software updates, transparency around software components and support for zero-trust principles, the platform aims to help organisations maintain security throughout the lifecycle of their devices.
With AXIS OS 13, the company is focusing on strengthening default security configurations and helping customers prepare for evolving cybersecurity requirements. The new version introduces several changes intended to improve protection while simplifying the management and integration of network devices.
One of the key priorities in AXIS OS 13 is improving baseline security. Over the next two years, the operating system will introduce stronger default security measures, including HTTPS-only connections, password complexity enforcement and signed application verification. These measures are intended to help organisations strengthen device security and keep pace with changing cybersecurity requirements.
The update also introduces enhanced integration capabilities to improve collaboration between IT and security teams. This is particularly relevant as organisations increasingly manage connected security devices as part of wider enterprise IT environments.
Another area of development is the next generation of VAPIX, Axis Communications’ application programming interface. The updated framework is designed to provide a unified approach to device configuration, streamlining configuration management across network devices.
AXIS OS 13 will also address the Year 2038 problem, a computing limitation associated with how certain systems represent time. The issue is expected to affect systems using 32-bit time representations after 19 January 2038. Addressing it as part of the operating system’s development is intended to support the long-term reliability of deployed devices.
Through these enhancements, Axis Communications is continuing to develop AXIS OS as a foundation for secure, interoperable and manageable network devices, with a focus on protecting customer investments over extended product lifecycles.
