Review: ASUS ZenBook Flip 13 OLED (UX363EA)

OLED screens are finally arriving on laptops and one of the first models available on the market with an OLED screen is the new ASUS ZenBook Flip 13 OLED (UX363EA). This 13.3-inch convertible laptop comes packed in a chassis and a lid that is made of aluminum alloy for added durability.

DESIGN
The ASUS ZenBook Flip 13 OLED weighs only 1.3-kgs and is quite slim at just 14mm. As with most new ASUS laptops on the market, the ZenBook Flip 13 OLED also comes with the ASUS 360° ErgoLift Hinge. This hinge design lets you flip the display of the laptop to any position – choose from laptop mode, tent mode, and tablet mode.

The laptop can also be used with the ASUS Pen (SA201) active stylus accessory, which is available at an added cost. The ASUS Pen supports 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity and MPP 2.0.

In terms of the back-lit keyboard, you get an edge-to-edge design that uses all space in the compact form factor of the laptop. You get a keyboard that achieves a 19.05 mm pitch while retaining many of the commonly used function keys, enabling users to type comfortably with accuracy.

In addition, you also get the NumberPad 2.0, an LED-illuminated numeric keypad integrated into the touchpad of the laptop. This makes up for the lack of physical numeric keypads on the ASUS ZenBook Flip 13 OLED.

DISPLAY
As mentioned earlier, the ASUS ZenBook Flip 13 OLED comes with a 13.3-inch OLED screen. The touchscreen supports a resolution of 1920-by-1080 and offers a response time of 0.2 ms. The display also offers an ultrawide colour gamut of 100% DCI-P3, which is widely used in the motion picture industry.

The ASUS ZenBook Flip 13 OLED display also features a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, which can support up to 500 nits of highlight brightness and 0.0005 nits of deep black brightness. This provides you with a brighter and more detailed viewing experience, especially if you are a content creator.

The display also comes with certification from TÜV Rheinland for low blue light and flicker-free visuals. Just above the display, you also get an HD IR camera. The dual-speaker audio system on the laptop is powered by Harman Kardon.

HARDWARE
The ASUS ZenBook Flip 13 OLED is powered by an 11th gen Intel Core i7-1165G7 processor, coupled with up to 16GB of memory and up to 1TB of PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD storage. You also get Intel Iris Xe Graphics, a 67 Wh lithium-polymer battery that offers up to 14 hours of battery life on a single charge, and support for WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0.

When it comes to connectivity, the ZenBook Flip 13 OLED offers two Thunderbolt 4 USB-￾C ports, one USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A port, and one standard HDMI 1.4 port. Inside the box, you also get a USB-C to 3.5mm dongle if you want to connect speakers or headphones through a 3.5mm audio jack. The dongle also has Hi-Res Audio certification to ensure you are getting an outstanding audio experience.

PERFORMANCE
It is quite surprising to find out that the ASUS ZenBook Flip 13 OLED was able to perform both office productivity and gaming jobs equally well. The brilliant OLED screen on the laptop wins as well, by offering breathtaking visuals. The 11th-gen chips are impressive as well, as are the 16GB RAM and 1TB of SSD storage.

Everything feels fluid – just like a hot knife through butter. While the laptop does not come with a headphone jack, to retain the slimness of the body, ASUS gets extra brownie points for including a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter. Overall, the ASUS ZenBook Flip 13 OLED is a thin-and-light convertible laptop that offers bang for your buck.
