Review: Corsair KATAR PRO XT Gaming Mouse

Corsair’s new KATAR PRO XT is a gaming mouse that weighs just 73-gms. The mouse is extremely light and agile for hours of fast-paced FPS or MOBA gameplay. Its compact and symmetric shape makes it great for claw and fingertip grip styles.

In terms of design, it looks very similar to the Corsair KATAR PRO Wireless, except it’s a wired mouse and has RGB strips on its scroll wheel. It also comes with two buttons on the side, and the overall build quality is very good – something you can expect from a brand such as Corsair.

In addition, the mouse offers an 18,000 DPI optical sensor from PixArt, which is customisable in just one DPI step and offers the precision and high-accuracy tracking you need for enhanced gameplay. The Corsair Quickstrike buttons use a spring-loaded design to deliver zero gaps between the left and right-click buttons and their switches. This ensures your clicks, shots, and spells are faster and better.

Since the mouse is lightweight, it performs really well, especially in situations when you need to move your mouse very quickly – such as during an intense gaming session. The main buttons on the KATAR PRO XT are very good.

There is some post-travel but pre-travel is low and combined with the firm buttons and crisp click feel. The overall button response is very snappy. The scroll wheel is also very good and using it felt smooth.

Like every other Corsair product, the KATAR PRO XT is compatible with iCUE, Corsair’s powerful software suite. All options are available through multiple list entries. The CPI (counts per inch) can be adjusted from 100–18,000 CPI in increments of 1 CPI and for up to three colour-coded levels.

Polling rate selection (125/250/500/1000 Hz) and macro and button remap functionality are available as well. The colour settings on the mouse can also be adjusted through the iCUE software.

In fact, you get 13 lighting effects, which include shift, blink, gradient, and pulse effects. Many of these can be further adjusted in terms of transition speed, direction, and colour palette.

For a very attractive price of $30, the Corsair KATAR PRO XT offers great sensor performance, low click latency, good overall build quality including the buttons, customisation through the iCUE software, and so much more. It is a budget-friendly gaming mouse that performs like an expensive gaming mouse.
