The Intersec 2024 Cyber Security Conference at the Dubai World Trade Centre delved into the intricate security challenges and governance issues arising from the widespread adoption of Generative AI, including ChatGPT, by organizations in the UAE and the Middle East.
As outlined by Gartner, the primary risks associated with ChatGPT in the realm of security include concerns related to data privacy and confidentiality, along with cyber fraud risks. Notably, Gartner pointed out that information entered into ChatGPT, unless chat history is disabled, could potentially become part of its training dataset.
This session provided insights into the current governance and regulatory landscape in the UAE and the Middle East, with a particular focus on the UAE’s National Strategy for AI 2031. Emphasis was placed on the governance objectives aimed at bolstering cybersecurity in the deployment of AI. The discussion extensively covered region-specific policies and initiatives relevant to the domain.
During the conference, Faheem Siddiqui, Group Director – Information Security, Majid Al Futtaim, said: “It is imperative for organisations to not only understand the security risks inherent in adopting Generative AI but also proactively establish robust compliance frameworks.
