Workday Launches AI-Powered Learning Platform Built on Sana
Workday has announced the general availability of Workday Learning, powered by Sana, an AI-driven learning platform that combines Workday’s HR and skills data with Sana’s AI-native learning technology to deliver personalised employee training and automate learning operations.
The new offering is designed to help organisations modernise corporate learning by replacing static training programmes with AI-powered, adaptive learning experiences. The platform enables personalised tutoring, automated course creation, intelligent recommendations, and streamlined administration from a single environment.
As businesses accelerate AI adoption, many learning and development (L&D) teams continue to rely on fragmented systems and manually created courses that struggle to keep pace with rapidly evolving skills requirements. Workday says its latest solution addresses these challenges by making learning more relevant to employees while reducing the administrative burden on training teams.
At the centre of the platform is a personal AI tutor that provides employees with real-time guidance based on their roles, existing skills, organisational context, and career goals. Employees can ask questions in natural language, receive contextual explanations, practise newly acquired skills, and complete interactive assessments including quizzes and polls. The platform also recommends personalised learning paths designed to support both current responsibilities and future career progression.
Rather than navigating lengthy training modules, users can search for specific answers. For example, an employee seeking guidance on handling customer data requests in Germany can receive relevant policy information immediately instead of browsing multiple compliance courses. Because recommendations are generated using data from Workday Human Capital Management (HCM), learning content automatically adapts when employees change roles, departments, or locations.
Workday Learning also introduces AI-powered tools for instructional designers and subject matter experts. Existing PDFs, presentations, and training materials can be converted into structured interactive courses within minutes. AI assists with generating course outlines, learning objectives, quizzes, summaries, and learner-friendly explanations, while built-in translation capabilities allow organisations to publish multilingual content from a single source.
Multiple contributors can collaborate simultaneously on course development, simplifying review processes across HR, compliance, and business teams. According to Workday, organisations using these AI authoring capabilities have reported reducing content creation times by as much as 98%, enabling learning programmes that previously took weeks to be produced within hours.
For administrators, the platform centralises learning management by automating assignments, campaigns, compliance reporting, and workforce training programmes across both Workday-native and Sana-created content. Learning paths update automatically as employees join the organisation, move into new roles, or relocate to different regions, reducing manual administration.
Since learning information resides alongside HR data in Workday, organisations can also analyse the relationship between training initiatives and business outcomes such as skills development, employee mobility, retention, and performance, rather than relying solely on course completion metrics.
Workday says customers have reported compliance reporting becoming up to five times faster, learner engagement increasing threefold compared to legacy learning systems, and significant productivity gains for learning teams.
The platform is already being used by organisations including Accenture and The Josh Bersin Company. Josh Bersin, CEO of The Josh Bersin Company, said integrating Sana into Workday gives enterprises an opportunity to transform large learning libraries into AI-powered personalised learning experiences while maintaining enterprise governance.
Colin Anderson, Chief Operating Officer for HR at Accenture, said the company is evolving its learning ecosystem to become more intelligent and personalised, with Workday Learning forming part of its broader AI-enabled workforce development strategy.
Workday Learning, powered by Sana, is now generally available worldwide for Workday HCM customers. Organisations that do not use Workday HCM or Workday Financial Management can access Sana Learn as a standalone offering, while existing Workday Learning deployments will continue to operate in regulated and sovereign environments where Sana components are not yet supported.
