NetApp has acquired JetStream Software, a provider of disaster recovery and migration technology for VMware environments, in a move aimed at expanding its data protection and cyber resilience capabilities.
The acquisition brings JetStream’s recovery and workload mobility technology into NetApp’s portfolio as enterprises continue to assess cloud migration strategies while seeking to minimise disruption, cost and operational complexity. VMware remains widely used for business-critical enterprise applications, and for organisations planning a move to the cloud, disaster recovery can provide an initial path for transitioning workloads before moving production environments.

JetStream’s technology will enable customers to protect VMware environments running on different storage platforms and recover workloads on NetApp’s first-party storage services, including Azure NetApp Files. The technology is also intended to support a gradual transition to cloud environments, allowing organisations to begin with disaster recovery and subsequently move workloads into production as their cloud strategies develop.

JetStream will complement NetApp’s existing SnapMirror replication technology, which will continue to serve as the company’s preferred replication solution for NetApp environments. The combined portfolio will extend protection beyond NetApp storage deployments to VMware workloads running on third-party storage platforms. The acquisition therefore expands NetApp’s reach across the VMware installed base while adding capabilities aimed at application protection, cloud migration and infrastructure modernisation.
