NTT DATA Launches AI Platform to Automate Insurance Workflows Under Human Oversight

NTT DATA has launched NTT DATA AI for Insurance, an AI-native agentic solution designed to help insurers automate and modernise complex workflows across underwriting, claims and customer service while maintaining governance and human oversight. Built on the company’s NTT DATA AIVista AI platform, the Service-as-Software solution combines configurable AI agents, insurance-specific data models and workflow orchestration with governance controls designed for highly regulated insurance environments.
The company said the solution is intended to help insurers improve productivity and decision-making while maintaining auditability and regulatory controls. It can be configured around individual carriers’ products, processes, operating models and regulatory requirements. The platform is also designed to integrate with existing insurance and enterprise systems, allowing insurers to introduce AI capabilities without being tied to a particular core system. Its model-routing capabilities are similarly designed to reduce dependence on a single foundation model.
“Insurance is built on human judgment that understands risk, prices fairly and stands behind promises when it matters most,” said Bruno Abril, Global Lead, Insurance Industry, NTT DATA, Inc. “AI strengthens the ability of insurers to meet that responsibility, and NTT DATA AI for Insurance supports human expertise with intelligent systems that work within a governed operating layer for enterprise-scale transformation. The result is that insurers can move from AI-enabled workflows to AI-delivered operations, at enterprise scale and with the governance that regulators and boards demand.”
The launch comes as insurers look to increase underwriting capacity, accelerate claims processing and improve customer service while managing growing governance requirements around AI. According to NTT DATA’s 2026 Global AI Report, A Playbook for AI Leaders in Insurance, two-thirds of insurers want to use AI in front-office interactions, while 86% support AI use in back- and mid-office workflows. However, the report found that most insurers have yet to industrialise agentic AI across their core operations.
“The insurance industry is generating more data than ever before, but better outcomes depend on how effectively that information is translated into action,” said Prashant Hinge, Chief Information Officer at MSIG USA. “AI can help insurers identify high-risk claims sooner, improve consistency throughout the claims process, and equip claims professionals with the insights they need to make faster, more informed decisions.”
NTT DATA AI for Insurance brings together specialised models and agents trained on carrier and domain-specific data, alongside guardrails designed to support auditable and deterministic AI decisions. The platform also includes an AI-native knowledge base and proprietary insurance data genome, which are intended to provide AI agents with context from the systems, data and processes used by insurers. This includes information relating to submissions, policies, claims and regulatory requirements.
NTT DATA said prebuilt and configurable AI agents can support workflows across underwriting, claims and customer service, while cognitive and event-driven orchestration coordinates AI agents, employees, enterprise systems and business processes according to each carrier’s operating requirements.
