Review: Kingston A2000 NVMe PCIe SSD (1TB)

Kingston Technology’s new A2000 NVMI PCIe SSD is the company’s entry-level single-sided M.2 drive that features 3D NAND. The A2000 offers 4 lanes of NVMe PCIe Gen 3.0 – so what this means is that it offers a single direction bandwidth of 10Gbps/800Mbps and a dual-direction bandwidth 20Gbps/1.6Gbps.

In addition, the drive offers XTS-AES 256-bit Encryption and TCG Opal, which offers the Opal Storage Specification set of security specifications used for applying hardware-based encryption to storage devices. On paper, the drive offers a read speed of 2200MB/s and a write speed of 2000MB/s. You also get the Acronis True Image HD Software for cloning your data, inside the package.

Other security feature includes the built-in eDrive support, which is a security storage specification for use with BitLocker. The Kingston A2000 SSD is available in multiple storage capacities such as 250GB, 500GB, and 1TB. The review unit we received came with 1TB of storage capacity. You also get a limited five-year warranty and free technical support.

Installing the SSD is a walk in the park. Since it is a single-sided drive, it is easier to fit into tighter machines such as ultrabooks and gaming laptops where the amount of storage space really matters. In order to gauge the real-world performance, we tested the SSD with a bunch of benchmarks. This included the ATTO Disk Benchmark and CrystalDiskMark.

We were quite happy with the overall performance, especially since the Kingston A2000 NVMe PCIe SSD is affordably priced. On ATTO Disk Benchmark, we got a read speed of 2157MB/s and a write speed of 2001MB/s. Next up, on CrystalDiskMark, we were able to achieve similar results as seen below:

For an affordable price point of AED 425, the Kingston A2000 NVMe PCIe SSD (1TB) is truly an SSD that is low powered for maximum performance. It also offers excellent built-in security features that will really be handy for those working from home during the pandemic. The Kingston A2000 NVMe PCIe SSD (1TB)can make for a really good storage upgrade solution for those looking to upgrade the storage capacitues of their notebooks and ultrabooks.
