Oman Accelerates Digital Transformation with Thousands of Government Services Online

Oman is rapidly advancing its digital transformation agenda, with the country’s digital economy emerging as a key driver of future economic growth. According to Ali bin Amer Al Shidani, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, Oman now ranks 18th globally among the fastest-growing digital economies.

A major part of this progress has come from the government’s push to digitize public services. Between 2021 and 2025, more than 2,000 government services were digitized, resulting in 48 million digital transactions in 2025 alone—a 78% increase compared with the previous year.

The country’s National Digital Economy Programme aims to further expand the sector’s role in the national economy. The initiative targets increasing the digital sector’s contribution to GDP from around 2% currently to 3% by 2025, with a longer-term goal of reaching 10% by 2040.

This ambition is reinforced by Oman’s Eleventh Five-Year Plan, which positions the digital economy as a standalone pillar of national development.

Beyond improving services and infrastructure, the transformation is also creating new employment opportunities. In 2025, nearly 1,300 Omani nationals were employed in specialized IT roles across 33 technical professions, highlighting rising demand for digital and technology skills in the local workforce.
