Review: ASUS ZenScreen Go (MB16AWP)

ASUS has been making some outstanding portable monitors over the past couple of years. This time around, the new ASUS ZenScreen Go MB16AWP Wireless Portable Monitor packs in a whole lot of new features.

As the name suggests, the monitor is wireless, which means you can now either connect the monitor through the USB Type-C or HDMI port or wirelessly using WiFi, Miracast or AirPlay.

In addition, the ZenScreen Go now comes with a huge 7800mAh battery, making it a truly portable device. You also get a 15.6-inch LED-backlit IPS display, offering an aspect ratio of 16:9. It offers a resolution of 1920-by-1080 pixels, supports 100% of the sRGB colour space, a 250cd/m2 brightness, and a contrast ratio of 1200:1.

The display also offers a response time of 5ms and a refresh rate of 60Hz. You also get a flicker-free viewing experience and a blue light filter, all of which is TÜV certified to protect your eyes. There is also a tripod socket at the back of the device, though the tripod stand is sold separately.

The ZenScreen Go comes with two built-in speakers, that offer an audio output of 1W each. On the left edge, you will find an HDMI port, a USB-C port, and a Displayport.

Inside the box, along with the ASUS ZenScreen Go, you get the Mini HDMI to HDMI adapter, a power adapter, a power cord, a quick start guide, a USB-C cable, the warranty card, the ZenScreen sleeve, and the ZenScreen tripod hole cover.

The ASUS ZenScreen Go comes with a built-in G-sensor that enables an auto-rotation feature that automatically senses display orientation and switches between landscape and portrait modes. The rear tripod socket is compatible with any standard camera tripod, though ASUS also sells its own tripod stand.

The display is quite sleek and slim, measuring just 11.5mm in thickness and it also weighs just 1.09 kgs with the stand. Connecting the display to your laptop, smartphone or tablet is a walk in the park. You can choose between wired and wireless connections.

For wired connections, you can either connect using the USB-C port or the HDMI port. For a wireless connection, you can connect using either Miracast, WiFi, or Airplay options, depending on the device you are using.

The display is non-touch. However, it does offer you a way to either mirror or expand your screen in order to have a better workflow. The quality of the screen is fantastic as always. Colours look really good on the screen and the contrast ratio is on point.

Since the display comes with a built-in battery, it offers almost 3 hours of continuous usage, without having to plug it into the wall socket. The display also comes with a kickstand at the back that lets you tilt the display by up to 70 degrees.

For a price of $499, the ASUS ZenScreen Go offers a wireless portable monitor with a very good resolution, contrast ratio, and eye care features. If you find yourself frequently on the road and need a second screen for your laptop or smartphone to better your workflow, then you should definitely check out the ASUS ZenScreen Go.
