Review of the ASUS ZenScreen Portable Monitor MB249C in the UAE

When you think portable monitors, sleek displays with screen sizes ranging from 12-inches to 17-inches come to mind. You would rarely think of a 23.8-inch monitor as being “portable”. However, the ZenScreen MB249C, which comes packed with a 23.8-inch display, is so versatile, that you can use it on the desk with the integrated kickstand, attach it to the desk using the included vertical mount, or simply hang it onto your wall partition. The ASUS ZenScreen MB249C just redefines what a portable monitor should and could be.

The MB249C offers a resolution of 1920-by-1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 16:9. You also get a refresh rate of 60Hz, an 8-bit colour depth, a brightness of 250 nits and a response time of 5ms. In addition, its contrast ratio is rated at 1000:1.

ASUS sent the MB249C neatly packed in a spacious box, well-suited for its 23.8-inch screen. Inside, the display is snugly nestled within form-fitting cardboard. The inner sections of the cardboard secure the panel, while the outer areas contain compartments to accommodate the assortment of provided accessories. In addition to the standard two-piece power brick, HDMI cable, and USB-C cable (capable of 60-watt Power Delivery), you’ll also discover the steel vertical mounting arm, aluminium partition hangers, and all necessary mounting hardware.

As mentioned earlier, you have several placement options for the Asus ZenScreen MB249C. You can use its built-in kickstand to position it on any flat surface, use the included desk arm for desktop mounting, or hang it on a wall partition using the provided hooks. When attached to the desk arm, this portable monitor offers adjustable height, tilt, swivel, and the ability to rotate into portrait mode (90°).

On the right edge of the display, you will find the Kensington lock, power, up/down, and Menu buttons. The left edge has a full-size HDMI port, USB-C (DisplayPort Alt-Mode, 60-watt Power Delivery), a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and a DC-in for power.

I put the MB249C to the test by playing a trailer from Equalizer 3, which has some predominantly dark and intense scenes. The MB249C excelled in rendering the dark areas and capturing the intricate details of the scenes. The MB249C can certainly be used for leisurely activities such as watching YouTube videos or enjoying your favourite web series on Amazon Prime or Netflix.

However, it also excels in productivity tasks such as working with Excel or finalising PowerPoint presentations. The MB249C is a suitable companion for such endeavours, especially if you require a larger screen for presenting the information.

I spent about a week using the ASUS ZenScreen MB249C portable monitor, and there are several things I liked about it. The display quality has proven to be more than sufficient for my everyday activities.

Whether I’m browsing the internet for news and information, engaging in reading and writing tasks, or watching YouTube clips, the monitor has consistently delivered a satisfying experience. The colours are vibrant, the contrast is commendable, the brightness is ample, and the text appears smooth and crisp.

The ASUS ZenScreen MB249C stands out as an excellent choice for those looking for a monitor that can be easily moved around within your home or office. It comes packed with a wide range of accessories, allowing you to mount it on a desk arm, place it on any flat surface using its kickstand, or even hang it on a wall partition. This adaptability is a valuable asset for those who require such flexibility.
