GE HealthCare and RSNA Bring Leading Cancer Imaging Expertise to Africa to Improve Access to Cancer Care
GE HealthCare and the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) collaborated to bring Across Africa 2026: Advancing Cancer Imaging, a two-day educational programme held in Cape Town from 4–5 September 2026. The initiative brought together up to 200 healthcare professionals from across Africa for expert-led education, clinical case discussions and hands-on learning focused on the evolving role of imaging in cancer care.
At a time when cancer continues to present a significant healthcare challenge across the continent, Across Africa 2026 highlighted the importance of strengthening imaging expertise and fostering collaboration among healthcare professionals and institutions. By creating a platform for education and knowledge exchange, the programme supported the continued development of oncology imaging capabilities across Africa.
Under the theme advancing cancer imaging, the programme explored key areas of oncology imaging, including cervical, breast, prostate, brain, head and neck and thoracic cancers, alongside emerging applications of artificial intelligence in oncology.
The programme also addressed the broader development of radiology capabilities across Africa, bringing together experts to share clinical experiences, regional perspectives and approaches to building specialist capacity. Sessions included discussions on cancer screening, imaging protocols, intervention and the growing role of AI in supporting cancer care.

Through this event in Africa and a second event that will reach the global radiology community through the RSNA annual meeting, we aim to support a sustainable framework for innovation, strengthen cancer imaging services and advance long-term improvements in patient care.”
The collaboration marks the first time RSNA has partnered with a company for its Across Africa programme, with GE HealthCare selected as its industry partner for the 2026 edition. The event took place on 4–5 September 2026 in Cape Town, South Africa.
