
Fortinet has expanded its FortiGate G Series portfolio with the launch of the FortiGate 1200G and FortiSASE Outpost, bringing together next-generation firewall capabilities and Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) functionality in a unified platform designed for hybrid enterprise environments.
The new solution enables organisations to deploy cloud-delivered security services within customer-controlled environments, allowing security inspection and policy enforcement to take place on-premises, at the network edge or in the cloud, depending on operational, performance and regulatory requirements.
Built on Fortinet’s FortiOS operating system and powered by its proprietary FortiASIC architecture, the FortiGate 1200G is designed to deliver high-performance threat protection, low-latency networking and hardware-based security while simplifying management across distributed environments.

According to Fortinet, the growing adoption of artificial intelligence, encrypted traffic and hybrid infrastructure is placing increasing demands on enterprise networks, requiring organisations to process significantly higher volumes of traffic without compromising application performance or security.
The FortiGate 1200G addresses these challenges by supporting flexible 10G, 25G and 100G connectivity while leveraging Fortinet’s latest ASIC technology to accelerate networking and security workloads. The platform also incorporates hardware-rooted security protections, secure credential storage and built-in redundancy to enhance resilience and business continuity.
When configured as FortiSASE Outpost, the appliance functions as a high-performance local SASE point of presence (POP), enabling organisations to process latency-sensitive or data-sovereign traffic closer to users while maintaining consistent security policies across cloud and on-premises deployments.
The architecture allows enterprises to deploy cloud-based SASE services, customer-managed on-site POPs or a combination of both through a single management interface. This unified approach enables security teams to maintain common policies, zero-trust controls, visibility and threat intelligence regardless of where enforcement occurs.
Fortinet said the approach is particularly beneficial for AI-enabled environments, where applications, AI agents and connected devices generate large volumes of east-west traffic that can be inspected locally instead of being routed through distant cloud locations. This helps reduce latency, preserve application performance and keep sensitive data within defined geographic or regulatory boundaries.
Industry analysts believe integrated firewall and SASE platforms will play an increasingly important role as organisations modernise their networks for AI-driven workloads.

The FortiGate 1200G and FortiSASE Outpost also leverage FortiGuard AI-Powered Security Services to provide real-time threat intelligence and automated protection across both cloud and on-premises environments. In addition, FortiAI assists security teams with faster threat investigation and response while reducing operational complexity.
Analysts also highlighted the growing importance of giving organisations flexibility over where security policies are enforced without introducing operational fragmentation.
