NetApp and Oracle to Introduce Managed Cloud Storage Service for AI and Enterprise Workloads

NetApp and Oracle have announced plans to launch a fully managed cloud storage service that will bring NetApp ONTAP data management capabilities natively to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
The planned Oracle Cloud Infrastructure NetApp Storage Service is designed to help organisations migrate, operate, protect and modernise data-intensive workloads in the cloud without significantly changing their existing storage management processes. Target applications include databases, enterprise software, virtualised environments, electronic design automation (EDA), high-performance computing (HPC), regulated applications and AI data pipelines.
The service will integrate with OCI, allowing customers to manage storage through the OCI Console and software development kits (SDKs), as well as ONTAP APIs and established operational workflows. By extending familiar ONTAP capabilities to OCI, the companies aim to reduce the need for application redesign and changes to existing storage operations during cloud migration.
Pravjit Tiwana, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Cloud Storage and Services at NetApp, said organisations want to move AI and enterprise workloads to the cloud without sacrificing operational simplicity, data management or reliability. “OCI NetApp Storage Service gives customers a native OCI experience while allowing them to use the ONTAP familiar capabilities for data protection, migration, governance, and multiprotocol access,” Tiwana said.
The service is intended for organisations running mission-critical workloads, including those in large-scale and regulated industries. According to the companies, it will support consistent data management, high availability, security and predictable performance across on-premises and cloud environments.
Konstantinos (KP) Papamiltiadis, Senior Vice President of Partnerships at Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, said the service would give enterprises a way to extend existing data infrastructure into OCI without rebuilding their environments.
“OCI NetApp Storage Service gives customers a trusted, familiar path to OCI, so they can focus on what the data does, not how it’s managed,” Papamiltiadis said.
Alvaro Celis, Senior Vice President, Chief Commercial, Partner and Ecosystem Officer at NetApp, said the partnership combines OCI’s infrastructure capabilities with NetApp’s enterprise data management technology to support the migration, modernisation and protection of critical applications, particularly in regulated industries.
The companies plan to make OCI NetApp Storage Service generally available within the next 12 months. Pricing and more specific availability details were not provided in the announcement.
