ASUS took one of its slimmest and lightest Zenbooks and made it slimmer and lighter, with a wide range of new features added. The new laptop comes with a gamut of connectivity options including HDMI, Thunderbolt 4 USB-C, USB Type-A, and a MicroSD card reader. In terms of design and build quality, the UX425E now comes built into an all-metal base with a matte finish.
The bezel around the screen is plastic in contrast to the metal base and outer lid. You also get the familiar glossy spun-metal outer lid design, just like other ZenBook laptops.
The display can be opened to a maximum angle of about 150 degrees, with ErgoLift hinges making a comeback. ASUS also hides the ventilation grilles inside the hinges, giving it a cleaner design.
The laptop weighs only 1.13-kgs and measures just 13.9mm thin. As soon as you open the lid, you come face to face with a 14-inch screen with a screen-to-body ratio of 90%. The low-power 1-watt display delivers 400nits of brightness, thus conserving battery life to the max. You get a top resolution of 1920-by-1080 pixels, and it also certified for being flicker-free and low blue light emission.
On the right edge of the laptop, you get the power indicator LED, a microSD card reader, and a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A port. On the left edge, you get the HDMI port, and two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports and the battery charging indicator LED. The laptop also comes with the ASUS NumberPad 2.0, a dual-function touchpad with an integrated LED-illuminated numeric keypad.
It’s quite incredible that even when the NumberPad is activated, the touchpad can be used for cursor control thanks to its intelligent software.
For added convenience, you can capture screengrabs, lock the webcam, or access the MyASUS app via function keys. The ZenBook 14 also comes with an IR camera that works in conjunction with Windows Hello to log you in instantly and securely through face recognition.
Under the hood, the ZenBook 14 comes packed with an Intel 11th Gen Core i7 processor, coupled with 16GB of RAM. You also get integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics, up to 1TB of PCIe 3.0 SSD storage, and WiFi6 802.11ax wireless connectivity.
The laptop is powered by Microsoft Windows 10 OS and as mentioned before, the device comes with a bunch of MyASUS apps. These apps can be used to connect your iOS or Android phone to the ZenBook 14 laptop, optimise the laptop’s performance, or to contact after-sales service and support.
You also get harman-kardon certified speakers. The laptop has been certified for durability and reliability using the MIL-STD-810G U.S. military standards. The laptop derives its power from a 67Wh battery, which according to ASUS, approximately 49 mins to go from 0% to 60%. ASUS says that the laptop can stay alive for 21 hours on a single charge.
During our tests, the ASUS Zenbook 14 UX425E performed really well. It was able to effortlessly chew and throw most jobs we threw at it. The laptop may not be a performance powerhouse or a gaming machine, due to the lack of discreet graphics. But then, ASUS isn’t targetting that crowd at all with the ZenBook 14. This is meant for mobile professionals who are always on the road and need a dependable and powerful laptop they can trust their entire day’s work with.
On a single charge, we were able to eke out around 13 hours of battery life. For a starting price of AED 3699, the ASUS Zenbook 14 UX425E is truly a versatile device that can do the job irrespective of whether you are working on a presentation, creating content for your YouTube channel, or simply enjoying your favourite web series, by making everything effortless.
